Join me as we embark to explore and better understand the world of carbon markets. On this last post about Project Developers, I share about the opportunities and trends moving forward for Project Developers.
In the near future, here are some potential developments we could see in the field:
𝟏. 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬: Investment in technologies like direct air capture and enhanced rock weathering is rising, driven by corporate and investor support. This investment is providing an impetus for the technological barrier to be surpassed.
𝟐. 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬: AI is used for accurate climate predictions and optimizing energy in buildings, while Industry 4.0 technologies improve production efficiency.
𝟑. 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐄𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: There has been a shift in support for carbon markets with President Biden most recently signing a memorandum supporting its future development.
𝟒. 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Over 30 companies joined the RE100 initiative in 2023, aiming for 100% renewable electricity by 2025.
I hope the four posts I have shared provides you a slight peek into the world of carbon project developers. I hope through better education about this industry we are able to change public views about the markets as we battle the onsetting effects of climate change.
Quoting my carbon guru, Rene Velasquez: “The focus on perfection is we’re in this shit. Meanwhile emissions continue unabated.”
Time is of the essence! Therefore, education and investment is key to battle climate change in order to beat the steep challenges of technological change. We need research to improve existing technologies, to do research we need investment and carbon markets provide an avenue for that.
Next I will share about Project Owners/Funders and the enormous role they play in ensuring the ready availability of capital to be deployed into the markets. I hope you stay tuned!
Once again please feel free to add comments, opinions and/or questions (good and/or bad) for us to enable to best understand this crucial industry as we battle climate change!
